Innovation Platform Workshop Held

The Amhara Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI) conducted stakeholders’ workshop on 17th -18th May 2014 in Finoteselam and Abchikli wordas of west Gojam Administrative Zone. The workshop was attended by over 131 participants drawn from West Gojam Zone Agricultural Office, the two Woredas Administrative Councils and Agricultural Development Offices, Ethiopian Seed Enterprise, ARARI HQ, Adet and Andassa Research Centers. Farmers from the two SIMLESA (Sustainable Intensification of Maize Legume Cropping System for Eastern and Southern Africa) intervention woredas were also among the participants of the workshop.

The objective of the innovation plat form was to discuss on the challenges and opportunities of conservation agriculture that has been taking place in Jiga Yelmdar and Abchikli Kebeles of Jabitehnan and South Achefer woredas respectively.

Fruitful deliberations have been conducted over the challenges of conservation agriculture (such as the removal of maize stover, lack of management of field trials, lower participation of women in the project activities, etc) trials, the need to rectify the aforementioned problems and strengthening collaboration among all stakeholders and so forth.

At the end of the workshop consensus has been achieved to take lessons from the last year’s experience and to work together as a team and undertake the upcoming activities with due diligence, commitment and strength.

The cost of the workshop has been covered by Sustainable Intensification of Maize Legume Cropping System for Eastern and Southern Africa (SIMLESA) Regional Coordination Unit at ARARI.
